Celebrating Excellence: The GeoVisions Awards Winners 2025

Each year, the GeoVisions Awards recognize outstanding individuals who exemplify these values through their work, dedication, and impact. This year’s winners have excelled in their respective fields and left lasting marks on their workplaces and communities.

Intern of the Year: Katherine Urquia Flores
People & Culture Intern, Alyeska Resort
Nominated by: Kojin Tranberg, Talent Development Manager
Katherine Urquia Flores, known as Katy, has had a profound impact on the People and Culture Office at Alyeska Resort. From onboarding new employees to supporting J-1 Work and Travel participants, she has demonstrated an exceptional ability to foster a welcoming and inclusive workplace.

Her nominator, Kojin Tranberg, shared:
“Katy has made a profound impact on the People and Culture Office at Alyeska Resort through her work in orientation, onboarding, and supporting J1 Work and Travel participants. Her efforts reflect GeoVisions’ core values of building personal connections, fostering growth with integrity, and creating global impact.”

“In a short time, Katy has become an indispensable member of the team. She manages incoming communication, supports employees, and consistently exceeds expectations. Her contributions have transformed the office, making it more dynamic and impactful.”

 

 

 

Trainee of the Year: Ting Shao
Biomedical Engineering Trainee, Primera Analytical Solutions Corp
Nominated by: Duxi Zhang, Head of Bioanalytical Services
Since joining Primera Analytical Solutions Corp in July 2024, Ting Shao has showcased remarkable technical ability, adaptability, and professionalism. Her rapid mastery of standard operating procedures, efficiency in laboratory environments, and leadership in clinical studies have significantly contributed to the success of various bioanalytical projects.

Her nominator, Duxi Zhang, praised her work:
“Ting Shao joined my group in July 2024 as a participant of the GeoVisions program out of China. She has been a positive addition to the group by demonstrating the willingness to learn, participate, and collaborate with others in the group on and off projects and within the company.”

“Her work quality and efficiency is a good indicator of the person she is. For example, her work on the method validation was as efficient as any employee I have supervised at her level. The repeatability at 100% for reanalysis is the goal any employee is striving for. She is an exemplary employee.”

 

 

 

Teacher of the Year: Sidar Alvarado Mendez
Dual Language Teacher, Glendale Elementary School District
Nominated by: Kathryn Oczytko, Principal
Sidar Alvarado Mendez has proven to be an inspiring educator, fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment for his students. His nominator, Kathryn Oczytko, commended his commitment:

“Mr. Alvarado builds positive and lasting relationships with students and teachers. He has created a welcoming environment in which everyone feels comfortable not only learning new things but taking risks as well.”

“Sidar is always willing to participate in community events and activities. He has been our boys’ soccer coach, and each year, the team has made it further in the playoffs. Sidar is excited to share his culture and his passion for Costa Rica with the staff and the students. His positivity and Pura Vida attitude are contagious! We are very lucky that he has been a Jack Dolphin for the last 3 years!”

 

 

 

Host Company & Mentor of the Year: Principal Karen Ringewald

Principal Karen Ringewald has transformed Maya Lin School into a beacon of inclusivity and community engagement. Her leadership has fostered meaningful connections between students, families, and educators.

“Ms. Karen, school staff, personnel, and the rest of the team as one have transformed Maya Lin School into more than just an institution – it is a community. From hosting different events and fundraising activities, family engagement to organizing cultural heritage celebrations, Ms. Karen has ensured that every student and family feels seen and valued.”

It is not only for recognizing her remarkable contributions and encouragements but moreover her continued excellence in educational leadership. Teacher District & Mentor of the Year: Barbara Redondo
Teacher-Leader, Margil Elementary School, SAISD
Nominated by: Alma Gomez
Barbara Redondo has gone above and beyond as a mentor, shaping the professional and personal growth of the teachers she supports. Her unwavering commitment, generosity, and leadership have left an indelible mark on those she has guided.

Her nominator, Alma Gomez, shared:
“Mrs. Redondo was more than just a mentor during my J-1 teaching experience; she was the cornerstone of my growth and success. From the very beginning of the program, she volunteered to guide me, taking on the role of teacher, coach, and unwavering supporter. With unmatched dedication, she went beyond her responsibilities, ensuring I understood every aspect of education.”

“She didn’t merely show me the ropes; she taught me how to align my teaching practices with the school and district’s vision and mission. Her guidance extended far beyond what was expected. Originally, her role was supposed to last only one year, but Mrs. Redondo continued to support me for all three years of my journey. She did so with passion, care, and a genuine desire to see me succeed.”
